Hundreds of prostitutes enter Barbados monthly, through the airport. People are recruited by newspaper advertisements, or simply by word of mouth. Many of the victims are women of the neighbouring islands Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana, trafficked in on false passports.
The commercial sex industry in Barbados consists primarily of women in prostitution in clubs and streetwalkers catering to male tourists and local clientele. Barbados has a high standard of living relative to other Caribbean islands and so is one of the main destination countries in the region.
